Research Interest

Currently, my research has focussed on Visulization and Manipulation of 3D data, particularly on the perception issues of stereoscopic Augmented Reality environments (related to teleoperation). My PhD research is about the effects of surface characteristics on alignment of Real and Virtual objects in Augmented Reality displays. A special tool being used is the Virtual Tape Measure (see VTM Demo) which can make 3D measurement in remote environments. The research findings will be very helpful for any teleoperation environments such as Micro-surgery by using Virtual/Augmented Reality technology. The immediately practical application is to use a virtual pointer effectively for guiding a drill relative to a variety of mine faces in a remote mining task.
